Time to cut the excess fat

Postby Sir Ronoh on Fri Jul 02, 2010 9:31 pm

As I spent the last few hours going over the site, I'm very surprised and happy about how much progress we made from a technical stand point. At first I was like "what's left to do?" until I saw some threads about a few different ideas floating around. However, as with any large project, at some point the product has to actually be considered "finished." And with TTN, we really need to decide on what stays, what goes, and what should we bother with at this point if this is ever going to be finished. (I have several games lined up outside of the realm of web games or card games.)

As it stands, from what I can tell, the actual game itself is fully functional. All the rules and settings work as well as the trade, timeouts, and end game stats. That's the most important thing.

Now there are some major ideas floating around, namely Tournaments, Clans, Replay Theatre, the Untouchables, Sell Cards, and Land's End Attire. In order to get this game done relatively soon, I think we should freeze Tournaments, the Untouchables, and Land's End Attire. They're nice but not that important compared to what we already have. Clans is very important, at least the basics, and Replay Theatre is essentially programmed on the back end, it just needs to be setup to view the games. Sell Cards is also important to have alongside the Trade Arena. Now the Trade Arena works for the most part, it just needs some tweaking.

That's the jist of it for now and just my thoughts.

Hey Sir! As you said as a whole the game works and works well. So have no complaints about that. Just need to get people together for some games.

I like the ideas for expansion and definitely like the "Sell card" option. Or what about even a trade-in system. X amount of level 1 cards for a level 2. Just something to get some fresh cards into the collection.

Thank you and keep up the good work!

I've got a few days off this week so I guess I can spare some time and revise all of TTN's functions. Gonna let you know about my superior opinion sometime this week. :)

Aight, first of all I think the /Home (/Nexus) could do with a makeover. I really have no idea to what end but I'm not quite fond with how it looks like now. I think I once mentioned that the "Welcome to TTN" box should only be visible while logged out, so when people first enter the site. Then we'd have more space for News, probably have the latest three or so news displayed.

Something I've wished for the Clan front: Different frontends for members and non-members. When you're not a member of the clan you would only see the clan info (description text, date created, clan tag, rank, valor), the members, recent activity and tryout rules.
Members of that clan would also see something like a message of the day (basically a notice a leader or recruiter can leave the clan) and a shoutbox. Also I'd still approve of two more member slots but that may just remain my fantasy. =P
